sigma gamma rho sorority, inc.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University. Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and sustained a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service.

eta nu sigma alumnae chapter

Eta Nu Sigma Chapter was established on December 21, 1991, by dedicated charter members Michelle Arransky-Orroyo, Angela Heres, Zelica Henry, Cheryl Barnes-Horton, Grace Powell, Judith Ricot, and Adrienne Simmons. Their mission was to foster sisterhood while making a lasting impact through community service, scholarship, and empowerment across Brooklyn and Queens. In 2020, members of Eta Nu Sigma expanded this legacy by chartering our sister chapter, Nu Beta Sigma, to focus on serving the borough of Queens. Today, Eta Nu Sigma is proud to have over 100 active Sorors and affiliates, including charter member Grace Powell, continuing to uplift our communities with purpose and pride.
